Saving, offline play and known limits in Operation Freedom

Updated 22 Oct 2026 · Play Operation Freedom

There's no save yet

Your campaign lives in memory while the game is open. There's no save and load yet, so closing or reloading the tab ends the campaign. Save and load is on the roadmap, along with difficulty levels and a tutorial campaign. None of those are in the game today.

If you want a long campaign, leave the tab open and pause with Space when you step away.

What needs a connection

The game runs on your device, but parts of it need the internet:

  • The map. Terrain streams from the open AWS Terrain Tiles dataset as you look around, so the map needs a connection.
  • Buying and restoring. Checkout and Restore purchase talk to the game's server.

Once you've bought something, your signed licence is kept in your browser, so the purchase keeps working when you're offline.

What's stored on your device

The game keeps a few things in your browser's local storage, not in cookies:

  • a random statistics id that isn't linked to your name, email or device
  • your sound setting
  • the signed licence for anything you bought

Clearing the site's data in your browser removes all three. You can restore purchases afterwards with your checkout email. See The free year, the Full Campaign and Allied Forces packs.

Radio voices

Spoken radio callouts use your device's built-in speech engine. On some browsers and systems the voice is an online one, which means your browser or operating system provider processes the text of the message. You can turn sound off in the top bar.

Devices

The game runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet and phone. Native iPhone and Android apps aren't out yet.
