Controls and game speed in Operation Freedom

Giving orders
Select a unit, then a district, to give it orders. The game is built for touch, so tapping works the same as clicking.
The top bar holds the main menus:
- Forces to request reinforcements
- Equipment for procurement and upgrades
- Bases to find your bases and outposts
- Sitrep, on phones, for the situation report
- The sound toggle, and 3D to switch 3D terrain on or off
Game speed
One in-game day lasts 5 seconds at 1×. You can also run at 2×, 4× or 8×, or pause.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Space | Pause or resume |
| 1 | Normal speed (1×) |
| 2 | Fast (2×) |
| 3 | Faster (4×) |
| 4 | Fastest (8×) |
| Esc | Clear the selection |
The game pauses on its own when a mission appears, and again when the force you sent is in position.
Map overlays
The overlay buttons recolour the map so you can read one thing at a time: Control, Support, Security, Intel, IED threat, Services and Terrain. The Intel overlay shows estimated insurgent presence, and it's only as good as your intel in that district.
Tactical battles
When you take command of a mission, the camera drops onto the real terrain for a real-time battle with an 8-minute limit.
- Tap or drag to select squads.
- Tap the ground to move, and tap an enemy to attack.
- Pinch or scroll to zoom.
The buttons along the bottom are Select all, Airstrike, Drone recon, speed, Pause and Abort. You get two airstrikes per battle, and an airstrike hits everyone in the blast, your own squads and civilians included.
For a high-value target, get a squad next to him with no guards near to capture him, which is the best result. If he's alerted he runs for the map edge. In a hostage rescue, the guards execute the hostages if the rescue drags on 75 seconds after the alarm.
